Roasted banana coated in sesame with lemon caramel

Yep, that sounds pretty oriental. Although the sesame street is in England. Oh yeah, I know, I’m funny. Nevermind. Get your banana covered and you’re good to go! Alright. Let’s see what we need for this little miracle and how we can leave the kitchen without having an accident.

So, this is what we really need:

  • 2 bananas (no game without the players),
  • 50 g of brown cane sugar
  • one lemon
  • sesame
  • butter

This one’s meant for two people, assuming you don’t need to prepare for your high school football team. Now that you’ve got that stuff spread out on the counter you can’t expect for the miracle to happen without some effort, so mate, check out the instructions for the magic:

banana cropped in sesamePeel the bananas (because we’re going to make our own special cover) and halve them lengthwise. Spread some sesame on a flat plate and shift the banana in that plate so the sesame sticks to it. It’s supposed to look like that picture. And nope, they’re not a filet-o-fish.

Onwards: Halve the lemon and squeeze out one of them. Peel the other half and cut the pulp into small pieces. Put some butter in the pan and make it melt; then put the sesame-covered banana in there and let it roast from all sides. I said roast, not burn.

In the meantime, heat up the cane sugar in a pot (without butter!)- take it slow, this is supposed to be caramel. As soon as it’s starts turning really dark and, well, becoming caramel, include the lemon pieces and stir well for a bit. Extinguish with the lemon juice and keep stirring until your lemon caramel has a syrup-y consistence.

While you’re at it, take a sip of rum. It kinda fits the mood here.

When you’ve gained a couple of pounds the next day, it could be the caramel’s fault. Or the rum’s. Or both. It really doesn’t matter anyway. Just spend another day on salad and everything’ll be alright.
